Update: Bruins recall Czarnik, Backes has surgery

Before the Boston Bruins humiliating 5-0 defeat to the Minnesota Wild last night, the team announced the news that forward David Backes would miss the nights game due to a slight issue and was listed as day-to-day.

That particular news, was false. The Bruins announced today that they had recalled forward Austin Czarnik to the big club, in place of Backes. Who underwent surgery on his elbow. Surgery. Elbow. That doesn’t sound much like a day-to-day issue now, does it?

David Backes reportedly underwent the removal of the olecranon bursa from his elbow on Monday. The Bruins have said that they will give an update on his condition after the weekend.

So, his scheduled return date appears to be unknown.

Research on this particular surgery states that the injury comes from elbow trauma. So Backes, being a very physical hockey player, would be pretty susceptible to this kind of injury.

In his place, Czarnik has been recalled from the Providence Bruins. Thankfully the Bruins pipeline is good enough to supply the big club with roster spots. But the injury bug appears to be hitting the B’s quite early, and that’s a big worry going forward.
